Research Interest

My main focus now is the understanding of genetic changes made during the process of plant domestication, using wild pea as model to dissect genetic, chemical and biological principles governing two key domestication traits – seed dormancy and pod dehiscence. We use comparative analysis of wild and domesticated pea by wide range of genomics, transcriptomics and analytical chemistry approaches. Seed dormancy is also very important adaptive trait to environmental conditions, being studied by genome-wide association approaches and environmental factors using Medicago truncatula HapMap and wild Pisum sp. resources. Legumes in broader sense, with focus on Fabeae tribe, are of my interest in phylogeny too. Finally, crop wild relatives, again in pea context are being used for establishment of introgression lines in order to broaden genetic diversity of the crop which was lost as the consequence of domestication bottleneck.
